Two companies of United Arab Emirates (UAE) are keen to invest in Bangladesh, especially in healthcare, hotel, shopping mall and tourism sectors.
The chairmen of the groups — Lulu Group International and NMC Group – expressed their interest during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her hotel suite in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (Feb 19).
Ihsanul Karim, press secretary of the PM, was briefing the reporters about the issues discussed during the PM’s meeting with the two business persons.
They are — Yusuff Ali, Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group and Dr B R Shetty, Founder and Chairman of NMC Group.
During the call on, Lulu Group Chairman sought land in Dhaka or adjacent areas to invest in shopping mall and tourism sectors.
On the land, they will construct a shopping mall where 5,000 people to be employed and a convention center with car parking facilities for 3,000 vehicles.
In reply, PM Hasina expressed her readiness to welcome foreign investments for the development of Bangladesh.
She urged the UAE business leaders to visit Bangladesh to get experience for the sake of implementation of their business plan.
NMC Group chairman expressed his keenness to invest in healthcare services in Bangladesh aiming to provide ‘quality, affordable and free treatment’.
The premier urged the NMC group to place proposal for construction of hospital in Bangladesh for the treatment of cancer and cardiac diseases.
NMC group said they would visit Bangladesh to discuss with officials concerned for implementing their plans.
Foreign Affairs Minister AK Abdul Momen, State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed and Principal Secretary to the Premier Md Nojibur Rahman were also present.
