The Bangladesh government on Thursday fired deputy secretary Mehedi Hasan for sexually assaulting and raping several housekeepers sheltered at a safe house of the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of Public Administration announced the decision on the 21st BCS administration cadre officer in a notice.
The ministry earlier suspended Mehedi Hasan on January 24, 2021, and opened an inquiry following the allegations. He was found guilty.
According to the notice, the officer responded to his show cause notice in writing on April 8, 2021, and requested a hearing. The hearing was scheduled for June 15 of that year.
As his reply and the statements provided during the personal hearing were deemed unsatisfactory, an inquiry officer was appointed to investigate the allegations made against him.
Investigations revealed Mehedi had called the housekeepers for irrelevant interviews and sexually harassed and raped them.
