Sonia Bashir Kabir is quitting Microsoft Corp after heading its Bangladesh office for around five years.

Speaking to bdnews24.com on Tuesday, she said she will not join any other firm after the end of her contract with the tech giant on Apr 30.

A former chief of US computer maker Dell in Bangladesh, Sonia was also in charge of Microsoft’s Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan and Laos offices.

“I’ve worked with foreign firms, sold foreign software until now. I will change the status quo now,” she said, adding that she would launch a new tech project.

Investors had already expressed interest in the project, Sonia said.

“So many students are studying computer science and passing tests, but we cannot employ them,” she said.

Sonia is a member of the BRAC University’s advisory council.

Besides working for Microsoft, she established Tech Hubs which works for empowering rural people through technology.

Sonia is involved with different start-ups as an angel investor.

She is a vice-chairperson of the United Nations Technology Bank for least developed countries, a member of UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education and Peace, and vice-chairperson of financial technology start-up Dmoney and health start-up Syntec.

Women are still facing difficulties to live a decent and happy life .
