On the occasion the International Women’s Day, the German Embassy in Dhaka honors its Chancellor Angela Merkel and Bangladesh premier Sheikh Hasina for leading their respective countries towards peace and prosperity.
Through posting a message on its verified facebook page, they paid a tribute to them marking the day.
“Two great leaders leading their respective countries towards peace and prosperity. A tribute to them on the International Women’s Day today,” it cited.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to Germany on her first foreign trip after the formation of the government through winning in the 11th parliamentary elections held on December 30. He attended the Munich Security Conference there. She also had a meeting with Merkel.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina had meetings with the German leader at different times. The two leaders have been honored by various magazines as influential women in the world.
It was Clara Zetkin, a leader of the ‘women’s office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany who first tabled the idea of an International Women’s Day in 1910.
Germany celebrated the holiday for the first time in March 19, 1911.
Later, the UN began celebrating it in 1975.
